I promise to do good work and guide them in the direction and get the respect the dancers deserve in the film industry.” Saroj Khan also said that the association will implement free education for dancers’ girl children.

Khan is also of the opinion that stage shows should be organised to raise funds for the seniors so that the money can be used as pension for those who are living a retired life and need money for survival and Rs 100 from every dancer’ daily income be kept side for the pension fund to secure the future of the dancers.”

Khan will also be approving girls and boys wanting to become dancers. She said, “Whoever is able to do both Indian and Western can be a professional dancer and will be welcomed into the association. I will not tolerate any excuses about not knowing a particular dance form. At the same time, if they need help and coaching, we will provide them classes as well.”

Khan believes that giving is living and is still teaching dancing to students and newcomers. She also has a piece of advice to seniors – “don’t sit, keep dancing and rehearsing, and keep yourself fit; work will come to you.”

Lalit Pandit rekindles old flames with timeless melodies

Lalit Pandit brings back golden melodies of the unforgettable era, albeit, with new songs, set to vocals by Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Alka Yagnik and Lalit Pandit himself. The romantic numbers are an integral part of the story narrative of the second season of Flames on TVF and MX Player. Incidentally, the first part saw the use of the original evergreen melodies of Jatin-Lalit like Pehla Nasha, Yeh Vaada Raha among others. “The producers are youngsters who love the Jatin-Lalit music. This season they wanted me to create songs which are fresh yet retain the immortality of the music of the 90’s. They wanted the haunting voices of Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik and Abhijeet Bhattacharya, all legends in their own right. The singers were as excited and when you the see the episodes, you will see the freshness and the youthful energy of the trio matching those of the actors. Also, I could not resist lending my vocals to a song; it was piano-based and very close to my heart.”

Since the budgets were shoestring, Lalit not only composed the music and lent his vocals to a song but did the programming himself as well. “The compositions have retained my core strengths but in in terms of interludes and synthesized music, the treatment is current. The tracks very clean with emphasis on vocals.  I would like people to hear the vocals rather than the sound. The raw energy and contagious enthusiasm of Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Alka Yagnik has infused fresh blood into the compositions,” concludes Lalit.

About the book

Traversing the era of the British Raj, the Partition and India’s Independence to the here and now of the Internet millennium, the story of six sisters of a patriarchal Muslim family, is investigated by a journalist. Before coming of age, the sisters had run away in the deep cover of the night from a Haryana village to define their lives and destinies. Began an undeclared game of may-the-best-sister win. Earn money, express inchoate talents in the arts, hook the richest husband, raise the next generation right – these were just a scattering of their to-do list. Through confidences and vignettes, updates and interviews, the Mumbai journalist travels between Delhi, Ajmer, Mount Abu and London, to recreate the narrative of a confederacy of women who dared to break the rules way before they were written. The story – blending fact and fiction – could have been chronicled only by one journalist, the grandson of one of the sisters.

About the Author

He then covered crime, politics and the arts for The Times of India, Mumbai, from the mid-1970s, engaged in daily reporting and film criticism. “We feel extremely honoured to be given the opportunity to host the book launch of Mr. Mohamed's debut novel- The Aladia Sisters. On behalf of my entire team at Toy Room Club, New Delhi, I would like to wish all the very best for this new development and continued success for all his future endeavours.”

Ajay Mago, Publisher, Om Books International:

The Aladia Sisters celebrates the novel as an art form. The story started germinating years ago, and took on different art forms before transforming into a novel spanning three generations. Destiny’s twists and turns, and the choices made by the protagonists—six sisters—caught at the crossroad of the nation’s and their personal histories, make it a novel reminiscent of the classics we grew up with.
